The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) is an annual, nationwide survey of children’s schooling status and their ability to read simple text and do basic arithmetic. ASER engages ordinary citizens in finding out whether their children are learning. Partner organizations in every rural district of India conduct ASER. It is the largest household survey of children conducted in India by citizens’ groups, carried out by more than 25,000 volunteers and covering over 600,000 children in about 16,000 villages each year. It is also the only annual source of information regarding learning outcomes of children available in India today.
The ASER survey is facilitated by ASER Centre, a specialized unit within the Pratham network focusing on research and assessment in education and other social sectors.
