Caregiver’s involvement in their children’s education

During ASER 2019 ‘Early Years’, we interacted with caregivers’ to understand how they are involved in their child’s education. In this series, ASER team member, Anoushka Gupta travelled across India to bring you stories of how all these caregivers’ maintained that they wanted their children to study well and carve a unique space for themselves in the world irrespective of their own level of education. 

Varsha: Madhya Pradesh

We met Varsha, the mother of a bright 6-year old in Madhya Pradesh during one of our field visits. She recounds how she wanted to study when she was young, but couldn’t due to several hardships.
However today, Varsha is very happy and proud that she is able to teach her children. When her youngest was in school, her husband encouraged her to take tuition and educate herself. Determined to help them, she took tuition for 2 months and continues to study hard and learn along with her children.

  160. Understand the burden of the cost.. If you go to college or university the cost burden is on you. Apprentiships traditionally burden the employer or at least a part of that cost is provided.
