Dear Rukmini didi,
I am a 9 year old child living in West Bengal. More than half my friends have learned to read short paragraphs. I am sad because I can’t. But my older brother who is 16 says almost a third of his friends can’t read either.
Should I go to school for another 7 years, Rukmini-didi? Only a third of children like me- who haven’t learned to read by 9 will learn to read by 16 (*). What should I do?
Why can’t West Bengal be more like Goa? If I lived in Goa I would certainly still be able to learn to read.
